These glorious mammals are welcomed by the warm temperatures of the Pacific offering shelter to protect their young calves from the heavy winter storms and give them a head start before returning north.\u00a0<strong>Puerto Vallarta<\/strong>\u00a0Of the 14 species of whales in the world, six have made the Mexican Pacific their home, and tow of them, the humpback and the gray, temporarily visit during their period of migration. Puerto Vallarta receives the annual visit from the humpbacks from mid-December to mid-April, months in which both local and tourists can enjoy the visit of these majestic cetaceans.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 14 species of whales in the world, six live in the Mexican Pacific permanently, and two temporarily during their migration period: the humpback and the gray. Specific,\u00a0<strong>Puerto Vallarta<\/strong>\u00a0It receives the annual visit of humpback whales from mid-December to mid-April, months in which both visitors and locals enjoy the visit of these majestic cetaceans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you know\u2026?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>About 26,000 whales migrate each year to the Pacific.<\/li>\n<li>Whales store a large number of resources during the summer, so in winter they practically do not feed.<\/li>\n<li>Their gestation period is about 10 months.<\/li>\n<li>Their babies feed solely on breast milk.<\/li>\n<li>The pups can increase up to 90 kilos of weight daily.<\/li>\n<li>The song of the whales can reach up to 10,000 kilometers away.<\/li>\n<li>First-time mothers are assisted by a \u201cnurse\u201d whale that will accompany the mother whale for 5 to 6 months until their return to the Arctic.<\/li>\n<li>They are so friendly that they are the ones to come to your encounter during your expedition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>Travelers wanting to see the huge cetacean in its natural habitat must go with a certified tour operator, who has permission from the Secretar\u00eda del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources). These are the only operators who can guarantee that your tour will cause no negative impact to the humpback whales.<\/div>\n<div>Please bear in mind that there are limited departure times for such tours and that a minimum distance of 197 feet (60m) must be maintained between you and the whales, so as not to disturb the sea giants.
