Puerto Vallarta continues to strengthen its international air connectivity with the arrival of Porter Airlines, which will debut in Mexico with direct flights from Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton starting in November 2025. This expansion marks a milestone for the Canadian airline, which for the first time operates outside of Canada and the United States, capitalizing on the growing appeal of the Mexican Pacific as a winter destination.
Porter Airlines: A Strategic Commitment to the Mexican Sun
Headquartered in Toronto and founded in 2006, Porter Airlines has earned passenger loyalty for its low-cost approach with high service standards, even in economy class. Its decision to select Puerto Vallarta as one of its first international destinations responds to a market analysis focused on the increase in Canadian travelers seeking to escape the cold for warm, safe destinations with established tourism infrastructure.
“We want our passengers to enjoy a pleasant experience from the moment they board, and Puerto Vallarta fits perfectly with that vision of comfort and enjoyment,” explained Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines.
Routes, Frequencies, and Onboard Experience
Porter Airlines will begin international operations with the following routes:
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ):3 weekly flights starting November 14
- Ottawa (YOW):2 weekly flights starting December 13
- Hamilton (YHM):2 weekly flights starting December 18
It is worth noting that Porter will be the only airline directly connecting Hamilton with Puerto Vallarta, offering a competitive advantage in this segment.
The routes will be operated with Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with capacity for 132 passengers in a 2x2 configuration, with no middle seats. This modern fleet offers a superior flight experience with:
- Free high-speed Wi-Fi
- Streaming of personal content
- Complimentary Canadian snacks, beer, and wine
- Comfortable seats with more space (in the PorterReserve fare)
Travelers who choose PorterReserve will also receive fresh meals, priority boarding, and access to premium cocktails, although these benefits can be added separately to the base PorterClassic fare.
Canada and Vallarta: A Growing Connection
With the addition of Porter Airlines, Puerto Vallarta adds 17 direct air routes from Canada, operated by six airlines: Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat, Sunwing, Flair, and Porter. The strategic alliance between Porter and Air Transat optimizes the connection network and improves flexibility in dates and frequencies for travelers.
This strengthening of air connectivity strengthens Puerto Vallarta's position as one of the most accessible and attractive destinations for Canadian tourism, especially during the winter months.
