Puerto Vallarta's iconic Malecón, the city's tourist and cultural heart, is undergoing a new phase of renovation. Since August, rehabilitation and expansion work funded by the Federal Maritime Land Zone (ZOFEMAT)), has been underway to improve the visitor experience and preserve this iconic space overlooking the Pacific.
Current works include replacing deteriorated paving slabs, installing new LED lighting, , refurbishing benches, installing planters with an automated irrigation system and the refurbishing electrical wiring. In addition, several sections will be repainted to maintain the vibrant and well-maintained image that characterizes the promenade.
The next phase includes a northward expansion, which will extend the malecón from 31 de Octubre Street to Argentina Street, along Avenida México, connecting with Hidalgo Park. This project will allow the pedestrian walkway to formally begin at that point, integrating new rest areas, public art, and viewpoints with ocean views.
According to municipal authorities, the project is on schedule and expected to be completed by December 2025, just in time for the peak tourist season. With this, Puerto Vallarta reinforces its commitment to more accessible, sustainable, and organized tourism, maintaining its boardwalk as one of Mexico's most iconic seafront promenades.
