Live like a Beatle! John Lennon and Yoko Ono's home in New York for sale for $5.5M

Are you a John Lennon fan? His home with Yoko Ono in New York for sale for $5.5 million

A piece of music history is for sale in New York. The former home of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, located at 496 Broome Street in the SoHo neighborhood, has gone on the market for a price of $5.5 million.

Built in 1885, the brick, bluestone and terracotta building is distinguished by its industrial-style architecture typical of Soho. The property, which measures approximately 2,500 square feet, features a spacious and open layout, characteristic of New York lofts.

This two-story property, which served as the iconic couple’s home for two years in the early 1970s, offers a fascinating look into the life and work of two of the 20th century’s most influential figures. The industrial-style loft, with its high exposed-beam ceilings and wide open spaces, was the setting for numerous recording sessions and artistic collaborations. Within its walls, Lennon and Ono created era-defining works together, including the “Double Fantasy”album, “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band” and “Yoko Ono/Fly,”and forged one of the most iconic relationships in the music world.

Beyond its historical significance, the house also stands out for its unique design and prime location. Located in the heart of SoHo, one of Manhattan’s most coveted neighborhoods, the property is surrounded by luxury boutiques, trendy restaurants and art galleries. Just steps from Central Park, it offers an oasis of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

Upon entering the home, one is immediately transported to a different era. The spaces retain much of their original design, including hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and large windows that allow natural light to flood in. The ground floor houses a large open space that served as a living room, recording studio, and event space. A modern kitchen and dining room complete this level.

Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a second, smaller bedroom. Both rooms offer city views and boast a sense of peace and tranquility.

According to the New York Post, there is the possibility of building two additional floors, thus doubling the living space. With twenty feet of frontage on Broome Street, the property also presents an excellent opportunity to create a unique commercial space, such as a restaurant or art gallery.

In 1973, John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved into the iconic Dakota building in Manhattan, leaving their Broome Street loft behind after just two years. This change marked a new chapter in their lives, as Lennon was murdered at the gates of the Dakota in 1980.
