Mexico in the top 25 of the best cities in the world according to Travel and Leisure

Every year, Travel and Leisure magazine lists the best 25 cities in the world and this year Mexico is not only on that list with four cities, but also tops the list in the top 1.

These are the four Mexican cities within the top 25 and we leave you the reasons why you should not miss them.

In the top 1 is the City of Oaxaca and the truth is that we know very well why.

Oaxaca has a world-class gastronomy that fascinates everyone, especially lovers of mezcal and mole. Its cuisine is influenced or dominated by the indigenous Zapotec culture that predominates in the State. This culture unfolds throughout the length and breadth of the streets of downtown Oaxaca and lets us see a little of its wonderful uses and traditions.

Among its attractions, the colonial design and the architecture of the 16th and 17th centuries also stand out, a magnificent example of the Novohispanic baroque and which was embodied in many of its churches and chapels, almost all of them built in the green quarry so characteristic of the city. In fact, an unmissable visit is the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzman.

The streets, restaurants, cafes, craft markets and the incredible cocktail offer will leave you in love with the City of Oaxaca.

In the top 2 is San Miguel, recognized by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008 and it is a jewel that you should not be missed.

Originally a mining town, San Miguel de Allende is visited by thousands of national and foreign tourists every year. The charm of walking through its colonial city streets, finding small squares and discovering its distinctive Parish of Santiago Apóstol is an experience that you should not miss if you are thinking of visiting Guanajuato.

The incredible Mexico City is in the top 6 and it is for a great reason (or several). All kinds of personalities, cultures, archaeological sites, bars, taverns, cafes, ideas, stories, dances, accents, gastronomy and more are concentrated in the country’s capital. There they come together in such a way that in a coming and going of exchanges of all kinds, Mexico City creates its own essence and enchants each of its visitors. It is definitely a place that cannot be missing from your list.

In the top 12 tied with Tokyo, Mérida receives this ranking because it is a city that without a doubt will make you fall in love. A colonial city delimited, on one side, by the Caribbean blue of the Gulf of Mexico and, on the other, by the Mayan jungle. In the Yucatecan capital you can enjoy the best gastronomic offer of the peninsula, discover and immerse yourself in the crystal clear waters of these underground caves called cenotes. You will soak up the Mayan culture and you will be able to enjoy the incredible archaeological zones
