Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit: the environmental impact

The economic growth and development that occurs in some of the tourist poles of our country inexorably generates an environmental impact. It is common to witness how asphalt stains devour nature in their path. In spaces where a short time ago there was a clean river, a forest or a virgin beach, hotels, golf courses, real estate developments and a wide etcetera now appear.

The problem is exacerbated in places whose main attraction is the richness of their natural environment, such as Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit. Fortunately, in the area the ecological culture spreads and strengthens. Both the majority of the population and the authorities are aware that the preservation of the environment is the basis of growth and socioeconomic development in the region. The results of measures that are being applied demonstrate this.

The Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit Difference

The differences between Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit and other beach destinations in the country are numerous and of different types. For example, here the view of the sea is not totally obstructed by the cement constructions. This might not seem relevant, but in reality it is a very important value and a consequence of proper management of the coastal zone. On the other hand, it has been possible to distribute the tourist load throughout the entire Banderas Bay area, thus avoiding the saturation of the places and the negative consequences for the environment that this may generate.

vallarta-riviera-nayaritFor some time in Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit the diversification of tourism towards the perspective of practicing it with nature as a setting has been encouraged. Although the concept of ecological tourism includes various activities and sports, humpback whale watching deserves special mention.

The coastal area of Bahía de Banderas is extensive, where the opportunity to live this incredible experience usually presents itself, from Punta Mita and the Marietas Islands to the north, to Cabo Corrientes to the south. In any of the maritime routes, aboard tourist boats, it is relatively common to see these colossi in their element. This happens every year between December and March.

Seeing the whales and their little calves emerge from the waters of the sea and submerge again in a magical marine dance, is an adventure that millions of people, whatever their age and place of origin, will always carry imprinted in their memory and their hearts.

This and many of the attractions offered by Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit depend on environmental care. Perhaps for the inhabitants of the area it is “normal” to have daily contact with nature within the framework of a safe, beautiful and friendly place. But there is no doubt that for many visitors, the lifestyle enjoyed here is a privilege.

The challenge is that there is always the opportunity to enjoy a sunset on the boardwalk, listening to the birds that retire to rest and the melody of the waves. Delight yourself with regional dishes cooked with species of local flora and fauna. Sailing, swimming and diving in waters free of contamination. And the list of attractions that make the Riviera one of the most important tourist poles internationally would be endless.
