Rupert Murdoch slashes price of his Manhattan penthouse by 38%
Media mogul Rupert Murdochhas once again put his luxurious penthouse triplex at 650 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on the market, this time with a reduced price of $38.5 million. This represents a 38% drop from its original asking price of $62 million in 2022.
The sky mansion, which occupies the 60th, 61st, and 62nd floors of the skyscraper, has approximately 7,500 square feet of living space and features six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two half baths. The property also boasts a 2,500-square-foot rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city, a 20-person screening room, a state-of-the-art gym, and a spa with sauna, steam room, and steam shower.
Murdoch purchased the penthouse in 2004 for $44 million and combined it with two other apartments to create his sky mansion. However, he first listed the property for sale in 2022, just as the New York luxury real estate market began to cool down.
Real estate experts cite several factors that could be contributing to Murdoch's difficulty selling the penthouse. These include the property's high price tag, the overall weakness of the market, and the current economic uncertainty.
Despite the price cut, Murdoch's penthouse remains one of the most expensive properties in the city. It remains to be seen whether a buyer will be willing to pay Murdoch's asking price, even in a down market.
